THE CULTURAL ASPECT OF SANTA MARIA COLLEGE OFFERS MANY OPPORTUNITIES WITHIN AND BEYOND THE CURRICULUM TO DEVELOP STUDENT’S CREATIVITY AND IMAGINATIVE EXPRESSION.

VISUAL ARTS

Our visual art studio is a dynamic and creative space where girls can experiment with different media including painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, jewellery, printmaking and graphic design. Our Mercy Gallery is filled with the girl’s inspiring collection of original artwork.

DRAMA

Drama provides an exciting opportunity for students to develop life skills as well as hone their dramatic ability in a fun, supportive and safe environment. Drama builds confidence, empathy, understanding about human experience and a sense of identity and belonging, all are valuable skills in contemporary living. In undertaking a course in Drama, students are exposed to a wide range of practical skills and are encouraged to develop their critical thinking.

DANCE

Students are provided with the opportunity to develop their skills in coordination, strength, balance, flexibility, control and alignment through the creative process. In undertaking Dance, students are introduced to a variety of dance styles including: Contemporary, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop. Through this students develop their practical skills and learn to understand dance critically.

MUSIC

Music forms an integral part of school life at Santa Maria College and the Music Department prides itself on an extensive co-curricular Music opportunities.

Approximately 300 students currently participate in choirs, chorales and instrumental ensembles and attend rehearsals each morning.

All students are invited to participate in the opportunities available in music as part of the co-curricular, curricular and instrumental music programs at Santa Maria College.

Whatever your daughter’s previous experience is in music, or her current abilities might be, there is an ensemble or choir suited to each student. There are also dedicated instrumental tutors available to teach students their instrument of choice. Joining a choir or ensemble is a great way to make new friends and develop vocal and instrumental skills that will last a lifetime. Practical music making and instrumental tuition have proven side benefits which include increases in self-confidence and resilience.
