Melbourne Alumni Reunion: Embracing Nostalgia and Celebrating Lifelong Connections
Alumni reunions provide an excellent platform for Santa Maria graduates to reconnect, reminisce, and strengthen their bonds, fostering a sense of community and lifelong support.
Last week, Santa Maria made its way over east for a Melbourne Reunion, which brought an incredible gathering of over 20 College alumni. There were graduates in attendance dating back to the Class of 1958 to more recent graduates, including 2014 Head Girl, Amber Withers and 2015 Head Girl, Madigan Aranda.
It was fantastic to also see Principal, Jennifer Oaten and Foundations & Alumni Officer, Elizabeth Houwert, both former students, reconnecting with fellow alumni and reminiscing about cherished memories.
“It is always heartwarming to see our alumni come together and celebrate their shared experiences at Santa Maria College. It was wonderful to catch up with other alumni and hear about their individual journeys since leaving the College.”, says Jennifer.
“It was so special to see a few of the ladies’ exchange phone numbers and catching trains home when they realised how close they live to each other.  Hopefully it is the start lots of future cuppas.”, adds Elizabeth.Â
During the event, Jennifer also shared exciting updates on the College’s progress, highlighting the development of our state-of-the-art Cultural Centre and other initiatives.
Our alumni are the living legacy of Santa Maria College, and we value their unwavering dedication, commitment to lifelong learning, and ability to inspire the next generation of students.
Thank you to everyone who attended the Melbourne Reunion, and we hope to see you at future events!
Combating The Attention Span Crisis In Our Students – Jennifer Oaten
It is no secret that attention spans have been steadily declining, especially among younger generations growing up immersed in digital technology. The average person’s attention span when using a digital device has plummeted from around two and a half minutes back in 2004 to just 47 seconds on average today – a dramatic 66% decrease over the past two decades.
