COMMUNITY ACTIVATION
We are committed to fostering an inclusive and engaged community, which aligns with our strategic pillar of Community Activation. This pillar focuses on engaging with parents, alumni, and the wider community to enrich shared experiences. By strengthening these connections, we aim to create a vibrant community that actively participates in the life of the College.
INVOLVEMENT & ENGAGEMENT
Involvement refers to your ongoing participation and support of your child’s day-to-day activities and the life of the College, such as attending events and participating in college activities. Engagement means having a strong understanding and commitment to the educational process and how it can be supported at home.
A PROFOUND IMPACT ON YOUR CHILD’S EDUCATION
Research consistently shows that parental engagement with education and learning has a profound impact on academic achievement, social skills, confidence, and a sense of personal competence. Combining our educational expertise with your understanding of your child creates the best possible outcomes.
PARENT ENGAGEMENT
To harness the benefits of parental involvement, Santa Maria offers several platforms for parents to engage meaningfully with the school community:
Parent Voice: This serves as an active platform for dynamic discussions on important community matters. These gatherings, structured like focus groups with pre-shared discussion topics, occur three times a year in Terms 1-3. A fourth session in Term 4 focuses on choosing projects to fund with the Parent Levy through a democratic voting process, empowering more parents to participate in spending decisions.
Parent Representatives – We have two or three representatives per year group who work closely with the administrative support of the school to organise functions that encourage parent get-togethers and other community-building activities.
Women of Santa: The school hosts social networking evenings once per term in Terms 1-3 for women to attend, featuring a guest speaker.
Men of Santa:Â The school hosts social networking evenings once per term in Terms 1-3 for men to attend, featuring a guest speaker. Additionally, the Men of Santa organises a Years 5 & 6 Father-Daughter camp in Term 1 each year.
Santa Ministry – This group works with the Mothers’ Retreat and provides support to families in need through Santa Assist.
Boarding Committee – This committee meets each term with the Director of Boarding to share feedback and discuss issues pertinent to the boarding community.
We believe these groups enhance our community by offering more opportunities for parental involvement and ensuring your voices are heard. This structure supports our strategic goal of Community Activation by fostering engagement and building a connected, vibrant community. We look forward to your partnership in fostering a supportive and engaged school community.
