Year 9 Religious Education: A Self Portrait
Year 9 Religious Education classes have been studying Christian Love and Sexuality. They have been looking, in particular, at the areas of change, challenge, and growth they face during adolescence.
A core focus was on how they can develop relationships and factors that may influence this. We discussed gender differences (in particular stereotypes) and the representation of women in the media.
The final task for this unit was to create an inspiring positive self-portrait. As a class, the girls came up with a list of at least 50 positive words to describe themselves. They traced the outline of a photo of their face and using the positive words created a self-portrait.”
The Value of Student Voice – Jennifer Oaten
“At Santa Maria College, we are not only given the opportunity, but we are encouraged by our teachers and each other to voice our opinions, concerns and ideas—to continue moving forward as a school and as a community. Student voice is integral for growth, and allows for us, as students to have an active role in shaping our education.”
