Flexible Learning
For the past 10 years, Santa Maria College has offered a number of endorsed programs for students in Years 10 – 12.
What is an Endorsed Program?
An endorsed program is a significant learning program developed by either the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA), a private provider or the school. These courses are all endorsed by SCSA.
These programs offer a range of activities not covered by traditional school courses or vocational education and training. Achievement of endorsed programs may contribute to the WACE certificate requirements and are reported on student reports and Statement of Results in Year 12.
To be considered, students need to provide evidence of learning. This may be through providing a statement of attainment, a qualification, certificate, award or through keeping a logbook.
Range of Programs
Santa Maria College offers a range of endorsed programs which includes, but is not limited to:
- Mock Trials
- College Production
- Community Service
- Seeds of Justice
- Bronze Medallion
- Keys for Life
- Skippers Ticket
- Leadership
External Programs
Endorsed programs can also be undertaken outside school and include groups like:
- Service clubs
- Music, speech and drama examinations
- Surf lifesaving certificates
- Cadets (eg army, navy, police)
Endorsed programs give students a little more flexibility in their learning and help them to gain entry to university.

The Value of Student Voice – Jennifer Oaten
“At Santa Maria College, we are not only given the opportunity, but we are encouraged by our teachers and each other to voice our opinions, concerns and ideas—to continue moving forward as a school and as a community. Student voice is integral for growth, and allows for us, as students to have an active role in shaping our education.”
