Year 7 Students Get Nearer to Nature
Today’s Seek7 Excursion to Point Walter Reserve was a unique opportunity for our Year 7 students to bring their learning to life through fieldwork.
Combining Science and Geography, the girls created a site survey and field sketch, conducted water quality tests, and carried out macroinvertebrate sampling, which produced squeals of delight with each new identification.
The weather was absolutely glorious: sunny and still – perfect conditions for our fieldwork.
It was a wonderful excursion, with our Nearer 2 Nature presenters complimenting the girls on their outstanding behaviour and exemplary manners. Today’s work supports the work on water quality and management that the girls are doing as part of their Seek7 enhanced learning program.
Madelyn Smith (Corbett) and Ava Collison (O’Donnell) tell us about the excursion:
The Value of Student Voice – Jennifer Oaten
“At Santa Maria College, we are not only given the opportunity, but we are encouraged by our teachers and each other to voice our opinions, concerns and ideas—to continue moving forward as a school and as a community. Student voice is integral for growth, and allows for us, as students to have an active role in shaping our education.”
Shining a Spotlight on Our Student Ministry Team
