An Unforgettable Night of Music: Santa Maria’s Annual Music Showcase

With their traditional red hair ribbons, just under 300 Santa Maria College music students performed in the annual Music Showcase on the weekend. The event attracted an audience of almost 500 parents, family, and friends. The Showcase involved all the choral and ensemble groups in the co-curricular Music Program with 16 items on the program. The music on offer ranged in styles from contemporary pop hits, Broadway musicals and film soundtracks. The standard of each act was excellent.

The evening also marked the end of the musical journey here at the College for our graduating Year 12 students. Each student received a yellow rose and a special key ring in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the program over many years. The success of the evening was due to the hard work of the students, the commitment of the tutors and music staff and the expertise of administrative and technical support. The students clearly enjoyed the opportunity to showcase the fruits of their demanding rehearsal schedule. The audience was very generous in their recognition of the performers’ efforts.

A huge thank you to 2023 Music Captain Ciara Smithies, who was also the compere on the night, the Year 12 musicians, members of the ensembles and choirs and the talented tutors who directed the ensembles or assisted on the night. A special thank you to Michelle Hunt and Jessica Del Borrello for their efforts in ensuring the overall logistical and musical success of the event.
