Santa Maria College Athletics Team: A Season of Triumph & Teamwork

The Santa Maria College Athletics Team has had an outstanding season filled with personal best achievements, remarkable sportsmanship, and outstanding relay performances. As we reflect on the season, it’s clear that our athletes have pushed their limits, displayed tremendous teamwork, and shown their dedication to the sport. We would like to acknowledge the incredible accomplishments of our athletes and give a heartfelt thank-you to our dedicated coaches.

One of the most thrilling aspects of this season has been witnessing our athletes achieve numerous personal bests in their respective events. From sprinters to long-distance runners, throwers to jumpers, each member of the Santa Maria athletics team raised the bar for themselves and the team as a whole.

Parker Brindle (Year 10), placed 1st and set a new personal best in the long jump, jumping over 5m for the first time. Beth Creasy also jumped 4.85m to take out the win for Year 9s. Their dedication to training and pursuit of excellence has been truly inspirational.

Some other notable performances came from Ebony Westlake (Year 7), placing 1st in discus, Olivia Mirco (Year 9), 1st in javelin and Emily Johnstone (Year 8), who placed 2nd in both javelin and discus.

Over on the track, our sprinters performed exceptionally well across all divisions. In particular, Willow Marshall (Year 7), placed 1st in Division 1 for the 100m and 200m events and Mia Tidy (Year 10), placed 2nd in Division 1 for the 100m and 200m. Special mentions also go to:

Harper Collison (Year 10): 2nd Div 2 200m
Rutendo Ngoma (Year 8): 1st Div 2 200m
Jayde Veverka (Year 8): 2nd Div 1 200m
Georgia Jenzen (Year 7): 1st Div 2 200m
Lolani Hatch, (Year 7): 2nd Div 2 100m

Beyond the incredible athletic achievements, what truly sets the Santa Maria team apart is the sportsmanship displayed by our athletes. In every competition, our team members exemplified the values of respect, fairness, and humility.

The relay races this season were undoubtedly the highlight of our campaign. The camaraderie, trust, and teamwork displayed by our relay teams were nothing short of remarkable. Our Year 7 A and B relay teams stunned the crowd with their lightning fast baton exchanges, both securing first place. The Year 9 B team also came away with a win, and both Year 10 teams secured 2nd place.

None of these accomplishments would have been possible without the guidance and support of our dedicated coaches. Dave, Gay, Sage, Imogen, Maria, Bianca, Duena, Lucas, Julie, Amy and Ben. Your unwavering belief in our students’ abilities and countless hours of practice have helped shape our team. We are immensely grateful for your mentorship and leadership.

Our athletes have pushed their limits, displayed exceptional sportsmanship, and worked together to achieve greatness. As we look forward to the 2024 season, we do so with immense pride in what we’ve accomplished and gratitude for our coaches.
