From Vineyards to the Coast: Our Geographers in the Field

Senior Geographers have recently been undertaking fieldwork related to their particular courses.

As part of their study of wine as a global commodity, Year 11s visited the Swan Valley where they undertook a study of Upper Reach Winery and other vineyards, in order to understand viniculture and the marketing of wine.

At the same time, students examined the role of agritourism in the diffusion of wine and current factors contributing to the changing geography of the Swan Valley.

Supporting these studies was an analysis of topographic maps and satellite images at different sites within the Valley.

Year 10s completed fieldwork in three coastal areas – Point Peron, Rockingham and Port Beach where they looked at coastal processes and the current planning issues relating to the impact of increasing human activity, climate change and rising sea levels in these areas.
