Tiani Joins Her Sister in the Big League

Year 10 student Tiani Teakle has been playing AFLW since Under 10s. Last weekend, those years of playing paid off, with her selection to the East Fremantle league side. Making it even more special was that her sister Julia presented her with her jumper.

“We hadn’t played together in a while, so it was really good to play with her again. I was honoured that she could present my jumper to me.” Tiani said.

We asked Tiani what she loves most about playing AFLW, she said, “I love playing with my friends and also all the little things like a tackle, a mark or a bump, it gets your adrenaline going.”

Tiani’s favourite player is Tayla Harris from the Melbourne Football Club. “I like the way she plays her football and her craft up in the forward line”, she said.

For Tiani’s sister Julia, it meant a lot to stand beside Tiani. “I’m pretty proud to be playing alongside her and to see how much she’s grown this season in the *Rogers Cup. It means a lot because it’s an opportunity not many other people get to experience. We played together for Northampton in the Great Northern Football League, but it’s even more special to be playing together in a bigger league.”

*Roger’s Cup is Western Australia’s Women’s state league competition for 15 – 17 year olds.

Student voice is integral for growth, and allows for us, as students to have an active role in shaping our education.”
