Alicia Awarded Zonta Young Women in Public Affairs Award
Alicia Tory is a motivated, conscientious Year 12 student who works tirelessly to serve the Santa Maria College community. She’s also our Deputy Head Girl. Alicia is an all-around student, achieving academically, in her sporting pursuits and service activities.
It is with great pleasure that we congratulate Alicia on receiving the Zonta Young Women in Public Affairs Award for the Zonta Club Perth.
This award recognises young women aged 16 – 19 who demonstrate superior leadership skills and a commitment to public service and civic causes.
The Zonta Club Perth
The Zonta Club Perth is a member of Zonta International, a human rights organisation associated with the United Nations. The Zonta Club of Perth provides advocacy campaigns to end violence against women, promote gender equality and calls for climate change action. Zonta works closely with agencies such as the United Nations Children Fund and United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women on programs dedicated to empowering and preventing violence against women through service, education, awareness, and advocacy.
Inspired to Apply
We asked Alicia what inspired her to apply for this award. She said, “I am extremely passionate about empowering women and gender equality and serving others and volunteering. After reading the Zonta website and reading about the award and how it is about serving others and empowering women, I decided to apply.”
She added, “This award means a lot to me, as it reflects the women around me who empower me to empower other women and serve others. Attending an all-girls school, such as Santa Maria, where community service is so important, this award is a testament to the Mercy values and all that is strived for at the College.
“I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to be able to apply for this award because of the people in my life that empower me every day to strive to help others.”
Alicia, you are a great example of a Mercy girl who inspires and empowers those around you. Congratulations!
