Year 7 Religious Education Advent and Christmas Preparations

Advent and Christmas are a very important time in the Catholic Liturgical Calendar. Advent begins a new Church year and is a time of hope, waiting and preparation for the coming of Jesus. In Year 7 RE, the girls have been learning about and creating the symbols used by Catholics during Advent to help them spiritually prepare for Christmas. This helps us all to remember the true meaning of Christmas.

The students have been very creative with some hands-on activities and have made some wonderful pieces. They have created an Advent Calendar which includes an action for each day. Some of the actions include reading the Gospel to prepare for each Sunday of Advent, celebrating the Feasts of the Immaculate Conception, St Nicholas of Myra and St Lucia. Also included are acts of kindness such as donating old toys, making and sending a Christmas card to a friend, and praying for those in need this season.

They have also created some fantastic Nativity Scenes made entirely from recycled materials. Their creations have brought a lot of joy and hope this Advent.
